Geometrica Situ is an interactive VR installation developed for Hothouse at the Aliwal Arts Center that utilizes high-density point cloud scans to reconstruct a physical environment. The project integrates real-time VFX and motion capture to create a reactive 1:1 digital twin, where the virtual architecture responds dynamically to the participant's physical movement and position within the space.
The core challenge lay in the technical friction between our high-fidelity visual goals and the strict constraints of real-time VR. We were rendering incredibly dense point cloud environments that also had to seamlessly accommodate a live, motion-captured performer. This meant the gameplay pipeline required aggressive optimization; even a single dropped frame or minor visual downgrade would have shattered the immersion of the live exhibition.
